Top Tips:

  1. A coach bus WILL NOT be able to make it up Montvale Rd (Maryville, TN) to ERC as well as a coach bus should not be taken on the tail of the Dragon (highway 129 where NC and TN meet).

  2. Thus, if you travel in a coach bus you must come to camp via the Foothills Parkway, it is the only way up. Regardless of if you enter the Parkway from Chilhowee Lake side or from the Walland/Townsend side you will still have one more pointer to make it to camp.

  3. Once you turn off the Parkway for a sign that says Flats Rd. This sign is within a quarter mile of the Look Rock tower parking lot. You will take the first and only right because if you go straight you will run into an old closed down campground. So take the right and you will go around a big curve. As you come down you will get to a Y in the road..DO NOT take a right, the coach will not be able to make the turn. Instead go left and head down to Top of The World Lake. Once you get to the lake there will be a gravel parking lot by a fire station facility, this is where you turnaround to head back to camp. When you come back and see the Y you will continue straight to reach the camp. Once past the Y the camp is a ½ mile down on the left. There is a gravel turnaround that buses will pull into and then back up to enter the camp.

  4. Charlotte, NC and NC groups – If you are in a coach bus and your driving directions tell you the quickest route to camp is to come via the tail of the dragon (Highway 129) be advised DO NOT take this route. All coach buses will want to take I-40 through Asheville and head towards Knoxville. Once in Knoxville follow the directions that say “From Knoxville” on our website to get to camp.

From Knoxville: Go south on SR 129 (Alcoa Highway) past McGhee-Tyson Airport. Just after Airport, do not take left fork in highway to 35, but keep straight on 129 so that you pass Super Wal-Mart on right. Go past Home Depot. At next intersection, turn left on to Lamar Alexander Parkway (SR 321). At fourth stop light, turn right on to Montvale Road (SR 336). Stay on Montvale Road for approximately 10 miles. After about 7 miles on Montvale Road, ST 336 will make sharp right turn at country store; BUT KEEP GOING STRAIGHT, passing horse fields, YMCA camp and switch backs on way up mountain. At the top of the next left fork in the road, turn onto unmarked Flats Road (there’s a sign there pointing to Top-O-World; head that way!) Go a few hundred yards up the mountain, and Eagle Rock Camp will be the first driveway on your right!

Alternative Route (best if coming from Gatlinburg, Townsend or with Large Buses): Go west/south on SR321 from Pigeon Forge or Townsend (or east/north on 321 if from Maryville). Turn south on to Foothills Parkway. At 9 miles, you’ll see on your left what is the only exit off the Parkway; TURN THERE. Then take next right; it’s sharp (if you miss it, you’ll run into a Park Service Campground). At next intersection, take a sharp right turn (you’re now on Flats Road). Go approximately 1/2 a mile; you’ll go down a very steep slope and from there should be able to see our camp and lodge on your left. At next driveway, take sharp left– AND YOU’RE HERE!

From the South (Atlanta, Chattanooga, etc.) from US 75 or SR 411: From northbound US 75, get off at Sweetwater exit on SR 68 heading east. At 411, turn left and go north. Immediately after crossing the Little Tennessee River, turn right on to SR 72 going east. At intersection with SR 129 turn right on 129. Go slow, as many sharp curves! You’ll pass TVA dam system on the river to your right. Look for Foothills Parkway brown sign and road on your left, and turn there. After about 7 miles, you’ll see on your right what is the only exit off the Parkway; TURN THERE. Then take next right; it’s sharp (if you miss it, you’ll run into a Park Service Camp-ground). At next intersection take a sharp right turn (you’re now on Flats Road). Go approximately 1/2 a mile; you’ll go down a very steep slope and from there should be able to see our camp and lodge on your left. At next driveway, take sharp left– AND YOU’RE HERE!
