Eagle Rock was born out of a dedicated band of volunteers who had brought groups of teens and adults on retreats to the Great Smoky Mountains since the 1970’s. A great deal of fun and camara-derie was enjoyed on these retreats, as well as some life changing encounters with Jesus Christ. In the fullness of time, the Lord arranged for a beautiful piece of land in the heart of the Smokies to be acquired and the ministry now had a wonderful new home. The Gillooly family moved from central Florida in 1993 to help in the planting of this new work, while continuing in the long standing tradition of reaching out to others with God’s love.

Since that time, staff and friends of the ministry have moved to the surrounding properties, dedicating their lives to the service of God through this ministry. Over $1,000,000 of real property, improvements and assets now exist with little debt as a reflection of God's purpose. A board of directors has been estab-lished to lead and guide the operation and development of this ministry by the direction of the Holy Spirit. Although the camp is not fully developed, an effective ministry has served campers and retreats, witness-ing to local residents through outreach, and providing an outlet for others to work in His service. In 2006, over 5,000 camper days were logged and continued growth is anticipated as the facility is developed and as the word spreads of this profound ministry. Eagle Rock is a member of the Christian Camping and Conference Association, the largest Christian camping organization in the world.
